About
The story of
Tonya Roche
I enjoy writing stories that end with unexpected twists. I lose myself in fictitious worlds, filling them with adventure and surprises. In presenting unlikely scenarios, I aspire to compel readers to believe anything is possible, and find themselves feeling as though they are part of the experience.
I strive to provoke the readers’ hopes and dreams and play on their fears. Take them on a roller coaster ride of emotions. Stories are our portals to escape the mundane world and into magical realms where we become sleuths and heroes. We fight demons and monsters. Slay dragons. Fall in love. As an author, my goal is to pull readers into the tale and hold them hostage without realizing they’ve been captured.
I write to bring joy to myself and to others. To entertain. To spark imagination. Through my work, I hope to give back a thread of joy that I have always found through my own experience with reading.
My own love of literature goes back to childhood. From fairy tales to biographies, I read them all, devouring books as though they might disappear before I could read them all. I laughed. I cried. I cowered on the kitchen floor while reading a paperback about vampires. My favorite books were those that moved me through a range of emotions, and left me thinking about them long after the book had been returned to the library.
At the heart of my work, what I value most are things such as adventure and curiosity, highlighting fun and imagination. The presentation of a pleasurable experience. I aim for creative uniqueness with a hearty side of humor, whenever possible. I believe literature has the power to challenge our perspectives and learned beliefs, opening our minds to the possibility of an alternative reality.
My writing is an extension of myself. A look inside the workings of a creative mind. The ego of a story-teller. A way for me to reach out and connect with others who share my desire for adventure. Thank you for joining me in my world of pure fantasy and the occasional magical encounter.

Finally retired to follow my dream of writing full time. It would take a few years to learn how to slow down and savor life, again, without feeling like I had to constantly be busy.
2020
Lockdown forced me to slow down and consider what really mattered to me. I participated in my first NaNoWriMo. I did not "win", but I had 25,000 more words than I had ever had before. I had caught the bug. I had so many ideas. I had to get them all on paper.
today
I continue to write every day. At 60 years old, I have officially started my new writing career. With the help of my grandson's imagination, I have published my first Middle Grade novel from my Dragon World Warriors series, The Boy Who Breathes Fire. This one is for you, Mason.
My cozy mystery, To Catch a Murder, is now available through subscription on Ream and Vella. Season 2 coming soon.
Also, look for my upcoming fantasy release, Beware the Raven.
